Free Space Simulator Online: Take a Free Test Flight

The LIFTONAUT trial flight is free, runs in your browser and needs no account: the GO/NO-GO poll, the countdown, liftoff, Max-Q, stage separation, orbit and the trip to the Moon, until it fills the window, with the same cameras, voices and data as a paid tour.

A good free demo should not feel like a cut-down version. The trial flight is the opening of a real LIFTONAUT mission: the climb from the pad, the booster turning back, the silence of orbit and the Moon growing in the window as the ship heads straight for it.

When it ends, you decide whether you want more. No card, no sign-up and no download, just a modern browser.

What the free test flight includes

  1. The GO/NO-GO poll and the final countdown, with Mission Control on the radio.
  2. Liftoff and the climb through Max-Q, running in real time.
  3. Stage separation, with the booster flying itself back toward the coast.
  4. Orbit insertion: engine cutoff, weightlessness, Earth below.
  5. The trip to the Moon: a gradual approach, with the Moon growing in the window and the guide's first explanations.
  6. As the Moon fills the window, a last screen with the full tours, if you want to keep going.

Cameras and views

You can switch between the cabin, the window, the chase camera, the ground camera, the onboard camera, the booster camera and the map, or leave it on AUTO and let the director pick the most spectacular shot. Drag to look around; on AUTO the view drifts back to the action after a few seconds.

Voices and languages

Mission Control, the flight director, the commander and a guide speak during the flight. Voices are recorded in English and Romanian, and all on-screen text, from the instruments to the subtitles, is available in English, Romanian, Spanish, German and Italian.

Real data on screen

Altitude, speed, g-load, Mach number, dynamic pressure and the outside temperature come from the flight simulation itself, and the Moon is where it really is on the day you fly.

How to start: browser, costume, seat

Press the free trial flight and the lobby opens: pick a suit color and a visor (and, on your first visit, your language), then a seat in the cabin. The trial is a solo flight, so the other seats are taken by the virtual crew, and it is free once per account or device. The first load takes a little longer, while the textures of Earth and the Moon download.

What changes with a paid ticket

A ticket buys a full tour instead of the opening, a seat on a scheduled rocket with other real passengers, a crew chat and a flight certificate with your name and mission after landing. Tours start at €0.99 for Earth Orbit, and the Grand Tour, the guided flight past every planet and Pluto, costs €4.99.

Works on laptop, tablet and phone

LIFTONAUT picks a graphics quality level for your device automatically and adjusts the resolution as you fly to keep the motion smooth. On a phone, turn it sideways for the full-screen landscape view; the controls grow to finger size.

A recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari with WebGL is all you need. The trial asks for no account and no card, and there are no ads.

Free space simulator questions

Is there a free space simulator I can play online?

Yes. The LIFTONAUT trial flight is free and runs in your browser. It is a ride rather than a piloting game: the rocket flies itself and you watch from a passenger seat, switching cameras as you like.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Everything runs in the browser. The first load downloads the textures and voices, and your browser can reuse them on the next visit.

What is included in the free test flight?

The GO/NO-GO poll, the countdown, liftoff, Max-Q, stage separation with the booster flying back, orbit insertion and the trip to the Moon, with a gradual approach and the guide's first explanations, until the Moon fills the window.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on current phones and tablets with a modern browser. The quality adapts to the device, and in landscape the flight fills the whole screen.

What do I get if I buy a ticket?

A full tour from €0.99, a seat on a scheduled rocket with other passengers, the crew chat and a flight certificate after landing. The Grand Tour, past every planet, costs €4.99.
